To My Daughter On Her Upcoming Thirteenth Birthday
Happy 13th Birthday, My Beautiful Girl,
Thirteen.
It feels like one of those quiet-but-important milestones—the kind you don’t fully realize the meaning of until later. You’re standing right at the doorway between childhood and becoming you, and I want you to know how proud I am of you already.
Junior high can feel like a strange in-between world. You’re growing faster than you expect—learning who you are, what you believe, what matters to you, and what doesn’t. Some days you’ll feel confident and strong, and other days unsure or overwhelmed. All of that is normal. Every part of it is allowed.
I hope you always remember this:
You don’t have to rush becoming anything for anyone. You don’t need to be louder, tougher, or more certain than you feel. You are enough exactly as you are—curious, thoughtful, kind, and still figuring things out.
I want you to know something else, too—something that never changes, no matter how old you get or where life takes you.
My love for you has no end. It runs so deep that nothing and no one could ever change it. It is without condition and without requirement. You never have to earn it. You never lose it. It is simply yours.
I hope this year brings you moments that make you laugh until your stomach hurts, friendships that feel safe, teachers who see your potential, and small wins that quietly build your confidence. Be gentle with yourself when things feel hard. You are learning, and that matters more than getting everything right.
No matter what, I am always cheering for you—from near or far, loudly or quietly, in ways you see and in ways you don’t. I believe in the girl you are and the young woman you’re becoming.
Happy 13th birthday, sweetheart.
You are deeply loved. Always.
Love,
Mom
